How will you make an impact in this role?

This position is encouraged to provide support for the PAYBACK Italy organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for an entrepreneurially minded individual to operate in a multifaceted environment with the full support of the American Express and Payback Group and with potential to develop a career within the broader organization.

Giving rise to the world’s largest Loyalty Management company, this organization combines the strengths of American Express with the marketing and couponing platform and expertise of the PAYBACK loyalty coalition programme – Europe’s largest multichannel marketing platform. PAYBACK has over 45 million active customers collecting points and obtaining benefits across a wide range of retail, travel and service industries. The business model generates more value for customers, card members and merchants, often engaging with them via social and digital platforms.

What you will do:

In this role you will support the vibrant Global Loyalty Coalition business unit from the ground up, leveraging some fundamental brand, technology, funding and people assets from the wider American Express group.

You will have the chance to report to the Payback Italy Legal Counsel Director, supporting PAYBACK as a member of the Global Loyalty Coalition’s General Counsel’s Organisation in the following matters:

  • You will act as Legal Counsel for PAYBACK Italy;
  • You will manage corporate secretary matters (to include drafting of Board minutes, shareholder’s meetings, special resolutions etc), required filings and approvals;
  • You will draft, negotiate and review agreements with commercial partners, suppliers, services providers, etc.;
  • You will give regulatory advice on program terms and conditions;
  • You will advise and review program advertising and marketing materials;
  • You will provide early warning advice on legal and regulatory developments and potential impacts to the business;
  • You will provide assistance as appropriate to Counsel and Director and other fellow lawyers, Compliance, Operational Excellence, members of the General Counsel’s Organisation and staff groups across the company to resolve clients’ issues efficiently and successfully.

What we look for:

  • Meaningful experience in commercial law matters, including data protection, consumer protection laws, unfair commercial practices and prize operations law and regulations
  • Law degree from an accredited law school in Italy, preferably holding professional qualification
  • Strong communication, teamwork and customer facing relationship skills, all with a global view
  • Proactive, independent self-starter, with the attitude to resolve complex issues and a strong sense of personal accountability and a “will to win”
  • Flexibility and desire to take on new responsibilities as PAYBACK and its businesses continue to evolve
  • Ability to balance multiple fast paced tasks, and experience in facilitating change
  • Proficient in written and spoken English and Italian
