It aims at making FAO’s communications strategic, coherent, focused and impactful, while ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in communication-related operations.The post is located in the Digital Media Branch of the Office of Communications (OCCI) and based at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.Reporting LinesThe Communication Officer (Photo Editor) reports to the Senior Communication Officer (Chief, Digital Media Branch). Technical Focus Creation of high-quality photographic content to showcase FAO’s work as content for flagship campaigns and events. Oversee the use and preservation of the historical and current photo archive and library. Key Results Comprehensive photographic and communication expertise for the contribution to the development and strengthening of FAO’s external and internal communication through photography-related activities and outputs of the Organization. Key Functions – Researches and analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology-related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support internal and/or external communication.- Produces a variety of information and reports as well as input for communication-related documents and web pages.- Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes and databases.- Participates in multi-disciplinary teams and/or leads working groups/teams.- Collaborates with other divisions and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.- Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations. Specific Functions- Supervises the photo unit team comprising of photographers, external contractors and interns, etc., ensuring clear assignment of work and responsibilities, and being accountable for the quality and timely delivery of work; manages performances and provides mentoring and feedback to colleagues.- Liaises with FAO staff across various teams to identify photo coverage needs, budgets, timelines and deliverables.- Ensures the commissioning of photo essays across FAO themes and around the world, working with colleagues in FAO regional and country teams to identify opportunities for photo journalist assignments.- Ensures the planning and gathering of photography content relevant to fast-changing social media and web media platforms.- Assists in the management of contracts with outsourced production vendors to create top-quality photo assets.- Edits incoming photo content and distributes materials internally, to other UN offices and to publishers, news outlets and digital media platforms.- Ensures consistent highest quality standards of images and associated information (captions and related texts, keywords, credits and copyright notices, relevant terms of usage or other restrictions) to meet the needs of the Organization.- Builds FAO’s capacity for visual communications by increasing the quality of photo assets in FAO’s digital asset management system (DAM) and promotes the production and use of assets which meet professional standards.- Ensures the proper management of photo archives and the proper safekeeping and preservation of historical photo materials.- Researches and edits photos for use on websites, social media and other digital platforms and for publications.- Assists in providing advisory support and guidance t Creative Video Editor Consultant World Food Programme WFP celebrates and embraces diversity.
