Solvay

Green H2 – Project Engineer in Computational Modeling Solvay is a science company whose technologies bring benefits to many aspects of daily life. Our purpose—we bond people, ideas and elements to reinvent progress—is a call to go beyond, to reinvent future forms of progress and create sustainable shared value for all through the power of science. In a world facing an ever-growing population and quest for resources, we aim to be the driving force triggering the next breakthroughs to enable humanity to advance while protecting the planet we all share. We bond with customers and partners to address today and tomorrow’s megatrends. As a global leader in Materials, Chemicals and Solutions, Solvay brings advancements in planes, cars, batteries, smart and medical devices, water and air treatment, to solve critical industrial, social and environmental challenges. You can count on our innovative solutions to contribute to safer, cleaner and more sustainable future. Role Overview We are looking for: To join its growing activities on Green Hydrogen solutions, we are looking for a computational polymer scientist to join the R&D efforts targeting improved and efficiency materials and solution design You will join a global Modeling and Simulation team, but you will be located close to scientists in charge of the application tests, in the Application Labs of Solvay in Italy As such, you will have a transversal role to develop and apply state of the art methods in atomistic and molecular modeling on polymer materials, to predict their properties and establish structure materials relationships in order to support and fasten the experimental activities, but also support the design of future innovative solution, with a customer driven state of mind. We count on you for: What will define success in your activity will be the capacity to translate and solve the challenges encountered by the application lab researchers into modeling projects, with realistic and impactful scientific outcome that could be translated in new breakthrough development: suggestion of new materials, bringing valuable insight into problems or challenges, and lifting roadblocks on the path to success for the whole Business activity You will be expected to develop and exploit competencies and expertise that are mature at the academic level into a realistic business application, impacting decisions and new materials developments, and to define realistic development roadmaps for your own activity. You will bring: You should hold a PhD degree in science, applied to computational modeling of polymer materials, and prove at least a few years of experience in project research at postdoc level, or a PhD on a very close topic to the position scope, such as barrier, ionic transport or membrane properties for the green hydrogen technology. You should as well show a strong interest in how modeling and experiment can be coupled, and what methods can help validate the delivery of your work. As technical skills, we are looking for candidates with the following expertises: Classical and coarse grain molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods Force field optimization (standard and Machine learning assisted methods) Knowledge of standard software for these methods, either commercial or open-source with a preference for open-source solutions, and capability to parameterize these methods. Frequent user of Linux based computational systems (HPC clusters and/or workstations) or of Cloud computing We will value at most the following behaviors: Customer-focused High proactivity Analytical thinking, problem solving mindset Team player and trustful Curious, self-motivated and eager to develop You will get: Competitive salary and benefits package 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations Training platform for all employees Free well-being sessions (physical and psychological) Additional information: The location for this position will be in Bollate, Milano (It) but will involve being part of an international team spread between Europe, Asia and US.
