Job Description Summary: An exciting opportunity to join the PayPal European Commercial legal team. As part of a team of global commercial lawyers, the successful candidate will work with PayPal’s sales and business operations teams advising on a wide range of European commercial legal matters. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, flexible self-starter with a global outlook and collaborative working style. This role is based in Milan, Italy. Job Description: Core responsibilities: The successful candidate will work directly with sales and business operations teams on a wide variety of European commercial legal matters with a particular focus on large enterprise customers located in Italy and France. Importantly, this role is customer facing and the successful candidate will be required to advise upon, draft and negotiate contracts in English, Italian and French. This role operates in a fast-paced environment with regular exposure to senior stakeholders and reports directly into the PayPal international sales legal team. The primary role responsibilities are: Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts with PayPal’s business customers for the provision of PayPal’s products and services In English, Italian and French including merchant agreements, partner agreements, NDAs, marketing agreements, novation agreements, incentive agreements and guarantees. Partnering with PayPal legal teams across our global organisation and working with senior colleagues and business leaders on a variety of strategic projects, regulatory issues, business development opportunities and legal department operational matters. Legal advice on contractual and regulatory requirements for commercial agreements and merchant product services with business customers and counterparties across a wide variety of legal topics including regulations pertaining to payment services and electronic money, card scheme rules, anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing, outsourcing, data protection and privacy, consumer protection, information security, and competition, Creation and maintenance of templates, policies and procedures pertaining to commercial contracts. Providing training to business colleagues on relevant topics. Identifying productivity improvements and leading process changes to ensure continuing efficiency. Job requirements: Bachelor of Law (or equivalent) from a top-tier university, specialization in business law, financial services regulations or international law At least 5 years post qualification experience with a major law firm and/or in house experience in payments or financial services businesses. Payments and financial services legal expertise is required as well as experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Experience working with online businesses in Italy or France would also be advantageous. Excellent communication skills with the ability to assimilate information quickly. The ability to draft and negotiate contracts fluently in English, Italian and French is required for this position as a core responsibility will be dealing directly with customers in these languages. Ability to proactively identify relevant business and legal issues and escalate to senior stakeholders as appropriate. Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances. An aptitude for collaborating effectively on international cross-functional projects and a desire to work as part of a team. An enthusiastic self-starter able to work autonomously. Flexibility to work with colleagues based in Europe, the United States and Asia and accommodate calls and deadlines aligned to their time zones.
