You will be exposed to them, and by investigating the problems that arise, will rapidly learn. You will collaborate with colleagues from many disciplines (HW dev, SW dev, product test and validation, product engineering, physical design, quality, supply chain, reliability, and others) and will learn from them. As an Optical Network Engineer you will work with an extensive array of test equipment and in-house troubleshooting tools. Your HW troubleshooting skills will help isolate the source of problems. You will work in a team environment and will collaborate with HW designers to fix problems and prevent recurrence of problems. Your work will improve product quality and reliability. This position involves troubleshooting/debugging customer field returns and identifying root cause and corrective-action. In addition, you will provide feedback to Hardware design teams with lessons-learned. This role would be a perfect fit for someone interested in constant learning and interested in making a positive contribution to Nokia Product designs. Key Responsibilities / Functions: Conduct root cause analysis investigations of HW failures on Nokia Optics products returned from the field. Establish corrective and preventive actions. Collaborate with problem-escalation teams to analyse HW issues in the field. Collaborate with customer quality teams to gather information on field failures. Work with Nokia Reliability team to deeply analyse root causes of a chemical nature (e.g., corrosion). Assist Reliability team to understand field risk of problems. Work with Nokia component suppliers to investigate failures and find root cause, corrective, and preventative actions. Conduct horizontal analysis investigations to determine if failures are present on other Nokia Optics products. Work with HW design teams on new designs to avoid known issues found in the field. Provide concise, lucid updates to internal customers and management. Your skills and experience You have: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or telecommunications, or equivalent practical work experience. Knowledge of optical communication products and standard optical test strategies. Circuit design and/or troubleshooting skills. Verbal and written proficiency with English. You are comfortable giving clear, concise updates to management and internal customers. You have an ability to explain complex technical problems to people not as technically adept as you. An ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple challenges at the same time. A problem-solving mindset and take initiative to find and collaborate with colleagues who can provide specialized support. Possess a high degree of urgency to quickly resolve problems. It would be nice if you had: Knowledge of product development processes. Familiarity with change management (ECO) processes. Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
