Institute for Renewable Energy

Eurac Research seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher with expertise in indoor air quality (IAQ) measurements and ventilation solutions. The successful candidate will be part of the team “Healthy and Comfortable Buildings” within the Energy Efficient Building (EEB) research group in the Institute for Renewable Energy.

The role requires a combination of technical expertise with collaborative skills to drive impactful research outcomes in the field of indoor air quality. Core activities include development methods to assess indoor air quality and occupants' exposure to pollutants, conduct IAQ monitoring campaigns, and the management of the VOC laboratory ( which specializes in characterizing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions from building materials.

Tasks:

  • to design and conduct laboratory experiments and field measurements on air quality
  • oversee the day-to-day operations of the VOC laboratory
  • to post-process monitoring data and define relevant metrics to inform on IAQ for addressing facility management and ventilation solutions
  • to collaborate within “Healthy and Comfortable Buildings” team for an extended evaluation of indoor environmental quality and definition of a related knowledge framework
  • to collaborate with local and international partners to promote the laboratory development
  • to collaborate with industry in product development and design
  • to support the acquisition and management of research projects
  • to supervise Master (and PhD co-supervision) students and internships
  • to write scientific publications and project reports (deliverables, etc.)
  • to engage with wider dissemination of the results

Requirements:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field equivalent experience (also gained in industrial sector)
  • Be interested in topics related to indoor air quality (indoor pollutants, human exposure…), building ventilation, health and well-being in the built environment
  • Knowledge of IAQ gaseous pollutant measurement techniques. Practical experience with these techniques is a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience with Python (or similar such as R, Java or C++) is highly desirable
  • Basic experience with proposal writing and student supervision is desirable, but not essential
  • Very good knowledge of English, written and spoken; Italian or German are desirable, but not essential
  • Previous experience with peer-reviewed publications
  • Ability to carry out tasks autonomously
  • Proactivity and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary research team
