As a Staff Software Engineer – Backend at Kaleyra, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical architecture, design, and development of our CPaaS platform’s backend systems. In addition to your backend proficiency, your deep understanding of logging, alerting, and monitoring tools will contribute to ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our services. Your technical leadership will guide a cross-functional team and drive the innovation necessary to deliver exceptional communication experiences. Responsibilities: Technically lead the design, implementation (develop as an IC), and maintenance of the backend systems that underpin our CPaaS platform, focusing on scalability, performance, and high availability. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and DevOps, to architect and implement robust backend solutions for our CPaaS platform. Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable code, adhering to best practices in software development, code quality, and performance optimization. Architect and develop robust APIs, microservices, and distributed systems that enable seamless integration of our communication services into various applications. Identify and address performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and reliability concerns, ensuring optimal user experiences. Provide technical mentorship and leadership to engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence. Collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, and DevOps teams to ensure the successful end-to-end delivery of our CPaaS offerings. Contribute to code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and maintaining a high standard of code quality. Design and implement automated testing strategies to validate system behavior, performance, and resilience under different conditions. Oversee the deployment and operational aspects of backend services in cloud environments, working closely with DevOps to optimize system reliability and resource utilization. Contribute to architectural discussions, technical roadmap planning, and innovation initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of our CPaaS platform. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in logging, alerting, and monitoring tools, integrating relevant solutions into our ecosystem. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in building large-scale, web-based enterprise software, with a substantial portion in a technical leadership capacity. Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Node.js or Go Strong background in designing and building microservices architectures, RESTful Web Services, Data Structures, Queues, Multi-Threading, etc. Familiarity with alerting and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic) to ensure system health and performance. Cloud platform experience (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and proficiency in deploying and managing applications in cloud environments. Solid understanding of databases (MongoDB, MySQL), data modeling, and efficient query optimization. In-depth knowledge of logging frameworks (e.g., ELK stack, Splunk) and experience implementing robust logging strategies. Proven experience technically leading and mentoring engineering teams, promoting technical excellence and fostering a collaborative culture. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in distributed systems. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences. Must have worked on highly scalable and available systems. Experience with version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing practices. Prior exposure to the CPaaS or communication technology domain is a strong advantage.
