Our team continues to grow, and we are looking for a Senior Economics Specialist to support energy and infrastructure projects delivered by the Strategy and Economics Advisory capability within Arup’s BIA team based in Milan, Italy. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading project engagements for commercial, economic and policy advice to infrastructure investors, asset owners, operators and developers, governments, and international finance institutions, primarily in the energy and utility sectors, and potentially additional support on the transport and social infrastructure sectors. Decarbonization and sustainability agendas are often at the core of our projects. The role will typically require a range of quantitative and qualitative skills including: Business development, client management and relationship building with public and private clients in Italy and Europe, increasing group turnover and staff. Bid Manager for economics focused projects. Focusing on developing bid winning themes and delivering bids on time to an agreed budget. Client maintenance, including sharing successes and policy developments, leading panel discussions and supporting marketing and communications. Project Manager / Technical Leader for energy and infrastructure scheme development and business case projects. Focusing on approach, problem solving, technical project delivery and commercial success of projects. Reviewing work and guiding the delivery of work undertaken by analysts, both within Arup and with project partners. Keeping up to date with market, technical techniques and guidance developments and influencing these to be more inclusive and creating public benefit. Supporting the development of a positive industry profile for Arup. Developing and mentoring staff, helping develop new team skills, coordinating across multiple offices and cities. Promoting and encouraging excellence and quality of work in all activities performed by the Economics team. Supporting the office and group leadership in strategic decision, offering insight based on your experience and expertise. Collegiate and collaborative working with the other offices and regionally. Required: We are looking for a well-rounded, motivated, and enthusiastic Senior Consultant/Associate with strong academic, professional, and personal skills. The role is well suited for a commercially strong, highly motivated self-starter, comfortable working individually and leading others, whilst playing a key role in multi-disciplinary teams and be passionate about their own personal and professional development. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in leading commercial due diligence and strategy assignments for private sector clients including a variety of financial institutions and corporate clients, and governments and government agencies. The ideal candidate will also have experience of leading such assignments across one or more key sectors including clean energy transition, wider utilities, transport, and social infrastructure. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following: At least 7-10 years of relevant work experience. Expert use of industry guidance and techniques and a working understanding of models and analytical approaches used in the development of energy, utilities, and infrastructure business cases. Experienced in quantitative policy analysis as part of the policymaking process in, for example: the energy, transport, or climate change portfolios. Expert knowledge of leading economic models and the associated influencing skills necessary to unlock sustainable development opportunities across the energy, infrastructure, or transport sectors. Assisting with business planning and feasibility studies, financial and cost-benefit appraisals, economics of energy and utilities regulations, strategic project appraisal and assessment of support mechanisms to facilitate low carbon solutions. Ability to work with short lead-in times and strict project deadlines. Excellent communication skills, including ability to engage actively with other team members and clients, and to communicate with impact. Highly numerate, and comfortable with critical thinking and problem solving. Strong knowledge of analytical and presentation tools, including MS Excel and PowerPoint; and Strong interest and proven capability in business development and client engagement.
